IV Sedation

How IV Sedation Works

Sedation dentistry will relax you and virtually eliminate all of the pain associated with dental procedures. Intravenous sedation or IV Sedation dentistry is one of several sedation dentistry options available to significantly reduce your fears, anxiety and pain discomfort.

IV Sedation at Titensor Dental

The Titensor Dentists and the Titensor Dental team provide the most comfortable atmosphere for their patients that want sedation dentistry. He uses some of the most relaxing sedation and anesthesia techniques offered in dentistry today. In addition to local anesthesia, laughing gas (nitrous oxide) and oral sedation, he can bring in a Board Certified Anesthesiologist for his patients that want IV sedation dentistry.

Dr. Titensor routinely works with Dr. Ben Quenzer for all IV sedation cases. Dr. Quenzer is a Board Certified Anesthesiologist and President of North Dallas Anesthesia. He performs deep sedation for all types of dental procedures. In addition, he has extensive experience in training dental offices for medical emergencies.

Patient Benefits of IV Sedation:

  • It's extremely effective for moderate to severe anxiety
  • It's very quick-acting
  • The level of sedation can be adjusted during the dental procedure. The patient will remain comfortable at all times
  • Patients can get ALL of their dental work done in one visit

During intravenous sedation (IV sedation), an anti-anxiety drug is administered into the bloodstream to achieve a state of "deep conscious sedation." Although you will not actually be asleep, you will enjoy a heightened state of relaxation. Patients typically don’t remember much if anything about their dental procedure afterward.

Throughout the IV Sedation procedure, your breathing, heart rate and blood pressure will be closely monitored. In general, patients recover quickly, although you may feel slightly groggy immediately afterward. IV sedation is extremely safe when delivered by a specially trained anesthesiologist like Dr. Quenzer.

IV Sedation Requirements

Two appointments are usually required. During your first visit, Dr. Titensor will describe the benefits and risks of IV sedation, patiently answer all of your questions and give you detailed instructions for the day of your procedure.

On the day of your procedure, you will need to have another adult with you to take you home. You should not perform strenuous activities, drive a motor vehicle or drink alcohol for the rest of the day. Do not take any medications prior to or following surgery unless Dr. Quenzer has approved their safety.

Titensor Dental has patients travel from around the country to their office to receive this level of sedation dentistry. Patients in the greater Dallas Ft. Worth area benefit greatly having Titensor Dental so close.
