Denture Repair
Why Would I Need a Denture Repair?
Good question! When you decided on dentures for tooth or teeth replacement, you learned they were a durable, replacement option, requiring little maintenance. At your final denture appointment, Dr. Titensor or one of our well-trained staff recommended that you should still brush your tongue and gums with a soft-bristled brush every day to promote good oral health, using dental care basics as if your natural teeth were in place. In addition, we asked you to continue your regular dental checkups with Titensor Dental. During your dental exam, Dr. Titensor can evaluate whether your dentures still fit properly or whether you need a replacement denture.
Now, back to the question: Why would I need a denture repair? Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong! Your excited grandchild accidentally knocks your denture-keeping jar on the floor. Your eager pet jumps on the vanity knocking your dentures off the counter. Your slippery hands accidentally drop the dentures into the bathroom sink. Accidents are the biggest culprits causing denture repair.
Even though you may not be accident prone, normal wear and tear of your dentures may warrant denture repair. Titensor Dental may need to reline, rebase, or remake your dentures; this is normal denture repair even though you have properly maintained your full dentures or partial dentures.
Finally, another reason you might want to have a denture repair is the aging process. Your body is a living organism, constantly changing. Over time, the shape of your mouth changes, and as it changes, the alignment of your jaws changes. Dr. Titensor's preference would be to adjust the dentures to accommodate the changes in your mouth, but sometimes, the changes may be so great, he may suggest new dentures.
Can I Perform the Denture Repair?
You see denture repair kits advertised everywhere. Please do not venture to repair your broken dentures yourself. Dr. Titensor and his staff have hours of training in denture repair. When you attempt to repair your dentures yourself, you risk the chance of making ill-fitting dentures that do not properly accommodate the structure of your mouth. You may create an imprecise denture that can cause greater damage to your mouth, leading to greater potential oral health issues, and disregarding the fact that dental repair kits are convenient and easy to use, you are only temporarily resolving your denture repair.
For whatever reason you require a denture repair, if you drop your dentures or otherwise damage them, call Titensor Dental. We are always ready to accommodate our patient's dental needs. Your full or partial dentures were a financial investment that made you smile. Let us maintain that smile by taking care of your denture repair needs.
